about

I composed the song in 2009.
Fuji is my 13 year-old Chihuahua/terrier mix fur baby. The song just came to me. It is the only country-like song I have written. Since Fuji wants to rid a school bus I made it a kids song. [Also the only kids song I have written.] So when I stated to record the song I found 5 kids including my grandson Benny to record for me. Now Benny was a little young but at his age then the word "No" reflexively flowed from his lips. This tune features Mike Lounibos on vocals, Jan Purat on violin, Josh Yenne on pedal steel guitar, and of course the kids, Cyrus, Kyle, Maddox, Quentin, and Benny.

lyrics

My Dog Fuji Wants To Ride The Bus...For Kids

“This is a song about my dog Fuji, Now Fuji is a little dog with a big heart and the one thing he wants to do more than anything else in the world is ride a bus! And I’m Gonna Sing it For you”

My dog Fuji wants to ride the bus
Because he wants to be with us

But that driver said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

We tried to sneak him on one day
But at the last minute he saw him and said he couldn’t stay
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

Now Fuji knew a secret about him
You see that driver and his son couldn’t swim
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

One day Fuji was sitting down by the lake
And there was the driver and his son eating cake
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

Pretty soon that driver got tired and took a nap
That’s when his boy went out on a rubber raft
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

Suddenly that raft it sprung a leak
And before long that boy was in water deep
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus.

Then that boy he gave a big “Yelp”
It woke up his father who turned around and said, “Help!”
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus

So Fuji flew into action and grabbed a life vest
And he jumped into the water and did his very best
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus

Well Fuji took that vest to the boy
And he kicked to shore to his father’s joy
But he said, “No! He can’t go!” and ride the bus

So the driver looked at Fuji said, “Thank you!”
It seems I’ve made a mistake and misjudged you
He said, “Yes! [stop for 2 measures] He can go!” and ride the bus

Solo

Well there’s a moral to this song
you see things are better when Fuji comes along
But He said, “Yes! He can go!” and ride the bus

My dog Fuji wants to ride the bus
Because he wants to be with us
He said, “Yes! He can go!” and ride the bus
He said, “Yes! He can go!” and ride the bus
He said, “Yes! He can go!” and ride the bus

“Come on Fuji, Let’s Go”

Fuji Barks
Bus starts engine and drives off
